Resets and outdoors

Taking the time to get outside is essential. Going out and camping even one night out amongst the trees and nature will help reset you and take away stress and anxiety. Living in Colorado people are generally happier and healthier, and it has a lot to do with getting out and soaking up some sun. It is easy to get stressed and fall off track of goals, plans, and life. I challenge people who are feeling anxiety to just go sit with some trees in the woods, camp, or anything that will get you away from electronics and noise, and closer to nature. People make fun of all the hippies, but they have some things right. It’s all about finding a balance between the natural world, and the one we have created.

Arctic is greening due to global warming

EARTHPAGES.ORG

GREEN – NASA, Handout Cindy Starr-NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center – Using 29 years of data from Landsat satellites, researchers at NASA have found extensive greening in the vegetation across Alaska and Canada. Rapidly increasing temperatures in the Arctic have led to longer growing seasons and changing soil for plants.

Funny how so many New Age pundits tell us to “embrace change” and look for the BIG GOOD in the flux of smaller good and bad events. But all this great sounding wisdom flies out the window when it comes to the warmer regions and climate change.

Why?

Because climate change is really a political issue. Some regions will suffer, others will likely benefit.

I’ve been saying this for months now, but because current power brokers and vulnerable peoples are concerned about what climate change will do to them, we hear a great outcry. I’m not sure if Canada…

Plastic Pollution and Nature

Many of us do not realize our impact on nature. There are a lot of people who do not go outside, and if they do, they never get to places where there is no people or cell reception. Therefore we never see plastic pollution outside of our city streets. It really is crazy how much plastic and trash is just floating around on earth. Next time you toss a wrapper or bottle, or see one on the ground think about where it goes. Chances are the ocean. Wind will blow it, or rain will carry it to a stream, to a river to the ocean or maybe a reservoir for recreation or drinking water. Trash doesn’t stay in one place, it flows like everything else. Everything we do is connected back to use one way or another, even our waste. Here’s a little article that has a birds nest with plastic trash featured.

Art, Kids, Lessons

I saw this really cool article about an exhibit at the singapore art museum. They have a show for kids inspired by the sea this year. It has a lot of awesome displays, and some get you thinking about our relationship with the ocean and our trash. Check out the article here, the first photo in the article looks like quite an amazing work.

Sierra Club endorses Hilary Clinton

I read today that sierra club has endorsed Hilary Clinton, which is very exciting. Clearly they would choose anyone but Trump…. I think I am still rooting for Bernie, but choosing anyone but a crazy climate denier for president is best. I think anyone in the democratic party will do us well, and it is about time we accept that a woman can lead the country. It is kind of crazy we have qualms with that idea in this day and age. The less crazy the better right? Anyway don’t vote for Trump, OK?

Quick Thought

My girlfriend and I have been trying to become more minimalist and get rid of things we don’t need. We have cleaned out a bunch of stuff and we felt proud of that fact, but then we remembered there are people starving and dying in other places…. Thinking outside of your own space makes everything seem smaller. Consumerism is an all consuming mindset. We need to break free of this idea we need to have “things” and have excess of everything, no matter how hard it is. The world is large, but we are all connected.

If we all cared

Something I have noticed while out talking to people canvassing this summer is we don’t care enough. There are a lot of people who care about others well being, but not enough. We are all to selfish and think to small. It’s hard to see past our own small worlds, but if we all would take some time and help others, or consider others situations we could create a better world. We need to practice more selflessness. How does the saying go? Treat others how you want to be treated…

Cut out the meat, at least a little.

We consume so much meat, especially in america, it is disgusting. If people would cut out some of their meat consumption we could make such an impact. People don’t have to become vegan or vegetarian, just eat more veggies. Take a couple days a week, or even a few meals a week and don’t eat meat. Some good motivation is the info from One Green Planet. Less meat and more veggies will make a healthier planet, and provide more food across the world.
